Princess 2018 Newsletter

Dear Southwest Friends and Family,

It’s hard to believe that I’m writing my final newsletter as Southwest Michigan’s Princess.  The last year has been full of so many awesome, once in a lifetime experiences.  I can’t believe how fast it went, it seems like just yesterday I was on the stage shaking as they placed the crown on top of my head!

Since I wrote my last newsletter, I’ve attended a few more goodwill tours.  I’ve met some amazing residents while on tour.  It’s fun to see them get so excited when we walk in the room!  I’ve really enjoyed getting to know them and I’m happy that I have helped give them a fun day when myself and my fellow reps visited them.

In February we attended the Magical Ice Festival downtown St Joseph.   It’s always fun to attend community events.  You get to meet so many people.  The little kids, especially the little girls, are always so excited to meet us and take pictures with us.  The sculptures were amazing, I couldn’t pick just one that was my favorite!

Our ambassador dinner was also in February.  It was very nice to have all of the program’s supporters in the same room at the same time.  I enjoyed being able to personally thank all of them for their volunteerism and for making a positive impact on my life.

Throughout my year of service, my platform has been raising awareness for homeless animals. Throughout the last year, I’ve been doing extra chores to earn money to donate to the local animal shelter.  I’m also planning my final fundraiser that will take place next month.  I’m excited to say that after much convincing from me, my grandparents adopted a cat two months ago from their local animal shelter.   Her name is Pip and she is so sweet!

I’ve met so many wonderful people throughout my year of service.  All of them have made such a strong, positive impact on me that I will never forget them.  I’m very thankful to have been able to surround myself with such amazing people for the last year.   I’ve built friendships with my fellow reps, Brianna, Ashley and London that I know will last a lifetime.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks preparing for my final walk as Southwest Michigan’s Princess 2018 in April.  I found the perfect dress and have taken my final pictures as the princess.  While I’m sad to see it all come to an end, I’m very grateful for the skills I’ve learned and the experience that I have had.  I know that the skills I’ve gained are things that I can use for the rest of my life.

And now, I’m signing off one last time as Southwest Michigan’s Princess 2018!

Sincerely,

Makenna Kate O’Donoghue
